What is a Vampire Facial?

If the sound of a vampire facial has you shaking in your boots, never fear, because we can also call it PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment. 

Either way, what occurs during the treatment?

During your vampire facial, we need to do a standard blood draw. Your blood will then be put into a centrifuge that separates out the platelet-rich plasma. 

Why do we want platelet-rich plasma? Because platelet-rich plasma helps to stimulate the production of new, healthy skin. In addition, platelets will help to activate stem cells in your skin. The result is the production of more collagen, tighter skin, and a visibly lifted appearance. 

Having said that, we don’t simply want to apply the PRP to the skin without first ensuring that the skin is activated and ready to receive all the benefits of PRP. 

We do this by adding on dermastamping, which is a procedure that uses small needles to “injure” the skin. 

By creating these super tiny puncture wounds in the skin, we not only promote the production of even more collagen, but we also open up the pores so that the PRP can have even better absorption into the skin. 

What is the process like?

Your vampire facial won’t require you to do much work. 

You’ll start by having your blood drawn, which will be no different than a standard blood draw you might have done at your doctor’s office. 

We’ll then complete the dermastamping on you, which will require you to lie back as we use a tool to create those small puncture wounds. 

Once the dermastamping is complete, we gently apply the PRP onto the face. For maximum absorption benefits, we recommend clients leave the PRP on the skin for as long as possible. 

Is it painful?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but no, we wouldn’t say the vampire facial is painful. For some, it might create some discomfort, but it’s not anywhere close to the level of pain you might experience with more invasive treatments. 

We also like to remind clients that we have numbing cream available that we can use prior to dermastamping to help further reduce any discomfort. 

When will I see results and how often should I receive this treatment?

It can take a full week for your skin to heal from a vampire facial. This means you will likely notice some redness and irritation immediately after your treatment, but this will fade with time so that after a week your skin looks visibly brighter, plumper, and more youthful. 

To achieve the best results possible, we generally recommend three treatments. These can be spaced out over the span of three months. After this, you’ll find that receiving yearly vampire facials is suitable for maintaining results. In fact, some clients can even space their appointments out 24 months apart if they are taking great care of their skin between appointments.
